In a leaking basement flat in east London, Gilbert Terrance takes two hundred pounds and a spare pair of shoes, walks out and never returns.

His goal is to start a new life. But when he encounters a vulnerable eighteen-year-old girl and gets pulled into a world of drugs, sex and organised crime, it seems that that life has never been further away.
